Grizzly Stalking

Spring 2008.  Yellowstone National Park.  Driving near Tower Junction I saw a coyote cross the road in front of me.  A car going the other direction had stopped and the couple inside were looking down off the edge of the road.  I drove to a wide spot in the road and parked.  With my 400mm lens and camera I headed back to where the car had stopped.  To my surprise a Grizzly Bear was fallowing the coyotes foot prints. I backed up and waited for him to get up to the road.  He got to the road and followed the coyotes scent.   I kept backing up as I took several shots.  This is 1 of 2 shots where he looked up at me.  The Grizzly followed the coyote up the hill.  When he got to the top of the ridge I thought it was all over, but I was ok with that because I got some great shots.  I was headed back to my truck when I heard coyotes barking. I looked up the hill and saw 4 coyotes chasing the bear.  The grizzly would turn and chase 1 coyote and the others would sneak up behind him and nip him in the butt.  You could see fur fly into the air.  Then the bear would sit down for a while to protect his backside.  After he rested he would chase or run away from the coyotes.  This went on for a couple of hours.  They came down the hill and I took several more shots - by several I mean over 600.
